About the artist
I was raised by two wonderful artistic parents and grew up with two equally fantastic artistic
brothers. While none of them are quite 'nerds' and not quite 'hippies' this was an interesting
upbringing. There was never a time when someone in the house wasn't creating. I've certainly
learned the value of free time, extreme patience with life in general, and how to appreciate
beauty in all things. I've experimented with various art hobbies in between raising my own wild
little bohemian young'uns and doing volunteer work. One of my old standby favorites is
beading, however, which I have been doing since
at least1990. I've dabbled in drawing,
practiced painting, tried a bit of tie-dyeing, pulped a bit of paper, explored Ukranian egg
dyeing, fooled around with photography, and noodled with numerous other arts. I have won a
few awards over the years, beginning with school competitions and most recently bead
contests and county fair competitions. I've also tried my hand with culinary arts, placing in
contests with recipes and baked goods. It isn't about the contests, however, I just like to see IF
I can do those things, and when I do, just how well my effort went. While that may seem like a
LOT of hobbies, that still doesn't keep me from spending most of my time with my kids and
family. They are my world. I've often given up my art funds to take the kids camping,
snowshoeing, or hiking. There's so much to life that's taken for granted, and I want to make the
most of mine. I'm still young yet, I'm sure there's a few other arts or activities I haven't gotten a
taste of. *grin*

In addition to a yen for crafting, I have been a volunteer through various EMS, Fire Rescue
and community endeavors.
I take great joy in helping others endure hard times through
volunteer efforts. Whether it be a tornado, an automotive accident, a house fire, a medical
response call, a blood or plasma donation, or a hurricane on the coast, I try to give as much
time and energy as possible to those in need. Not only do I find it ultimately inspiring, I feel it is
a very good way to instill a strong sense of community and caring in my children. Live by
example, a motto I believe in strongly.

As a result, time ha
d been taken from my crafting and art efforts. Each piece I create
is a labor of love. Each life I affect
through volunteering is as much the same.
